This past weekend, members of Team R4V traveled to Virginia Beach to run in the Shamrock 8K and Anthem Half-Marathon. The Team (which consisted of walkers, runners, family, and supporters) participated and cheered in the events to raise funds and awareness for America’s disabled veterans, and made a serious commitment by raising over $12,000!!
The pre-race dinner was an incredible success! The President and Co-Founder of Team R4V, Joe Plank, gave a welcome speech that highlighted Team R4V creating “life-changing opportunities” for America’s wounded veterans by promoting “healthy healing through sport”. How can you not be jazzed about this cause?!
Although the Team had “met” on the group training page, R4Vers from Maine to Florida were excited to shake hands and give hugs to the people they had been virtually training with for the past four months in order to empower America’s wounded veterans. A few photos from the dinner:
Race day could not have been more perfect! The weather was a chilly 52 degrees at the start, which made for fantastic race conditions. R4Vers gathered together before the race to say their “have funs” and “good lucks” and off they went.
To say that everyone had a stellar performance would be an understatement. R4Vers had three first time 8Kers, four first-time half-marathoners, and three new Personal Records! Not to mention the folks that went out there and had a wonderful time pacing friends and family to the finish. WOW!!!
With over 19,000 participants in the 8K and Half-Marathon, the post-race party was quite a shindig! Team R4V gathered in a tent on the beach and shared racing stories over a few beverages. What a weekend!
Thank you to each and every runner, supporter and family member that made the trip to VA Beach for the purpose of giving hope, strength and courage to our nation’s heores. You are, and always will be, a R4Ver, and we welcome you to the R4V TEAM!!
